Chelsea House Member Newsletter - DEC 6, 2021
As part of joining Chelsea House, our private residential community for students, our members receive weekly updates about the community, upcoming events, developments in the student residence, repairs in the apartments, and any other relevant news. We've decided to also post these updates on our website in order to let you, our website visitors looking for student housing in Montreal to get an inside view of the Chelsea House student life!
Dear Chelsea House members,
Hope you had a good Monday !
Here’s some updates for you:
- GARBAGE / RECYCLING
Thanks to the exterior work being completed, we’ve been able to successfully relocate the location of our trash and recycling bins from in front of the building to the back of the building. This means that to bring out your trash, you must go down to the ground floor and take the back exit of the building. Right there at the exit you’ll find our bins. If you have any questions feel free to hit us up!
Out of respect for your fellow members, we ask that you please do not leave your trash lying in the corridor.
Also, please note that this back door will have a fully functioning Salto access control installed this week so you can enter the building from the back. However, for safety reasons, it won’t be functioning past 9pm in order to ensure that only the main entrances are used.
We’d like to know who’s in town for the Holidays or heading home ! Janelle will be reaching out to you to know who’s sticking around, which will help for activity planning :)
- YOU’VE GOT MAIL
As you may have noticed, Chelsea House gets a lot of mail. Way more than we had imagined. Here’s what we are doing to address it:
- A) Currently, when we get mail we individually alert the member in their apartment group chat. It is currently kept in the office area which will shortly (as in, we ordered the drawer locks today thanks to your feedback) be secured. As we are getting upwards of 10 packages a day minimum, we ask that you promptly go pick up your mail when it arrives (it accumulates quickly).
B) We have repurposed an area in the ground floor near the common areas where we will install an EXPEDIBOX.
This is a smart locker system with different size containers and so when we get a package, we can place it into the appropriate container, assign it to the corresponding member. That member will get a text message with the code to unlock that container. It’s pretty neat and we got the biggest size that would fit our space. Keep in mind even with this system we have to promptly pick up our mail seeing as even this locker will fill up fast at the rate Chelsea ❤️ E-commerce lol.
Expected delivery date - mid Jan 2022
C) We’ve spoken to the main delivery services to try for them to get a little bit more organized. Examples: Deliveries for other buildings get here, they say something is delivered before it actually being here (happened twice last week), they get impatient when we don’t answer right away, also clearly mistreat packages.
Unfortunately there hasn’t been much progress on this front asides from Canada Post. We have a dedicated mailman from them called GARY. He’s great and the system is going better. With the other services though…it’s a bit of a shitshow because it’s never the same couriers dropping stuff off. Also from what we’ve gathered they are under intense pressure as the volume of deliveries has gone up drastically.

ITS COLD & DARK REAL EARLY
Yes, and it kind of sucks.
To make things better here’s what we came up with:
- Lounge card games have been ordered. Jenga, Connect Four, Cards Against Humanity, Pregame card games, etc.
- As adoptive Montrealers, your experience here wouldn’t be complete without the quasi-religious 😇 experience of going to a Montreal Canadiens hockey game (also called “going to the Habs”).
We have secured tickets 🎟 to both games this week for a lucky Chelsea member - tomorrow vs Tampa Bay Lightning & Thursday vs Chicago Blackhawks !!!
If you’re interested in going —-> write in the Chelsea Fam group and we will raffle off the tickets.
We are currently working hard to make the housekeeping service even more up to our standards (meaning more in depth). In order to do so, it is possible that the start time of the housekeeping will go from 10am to 9am. We will keep you posted.
Also - in case you do not want housekeeping to clean your room, we will design DO NOT DISTURB signs which will be a way to let them know not to clean your room. Please note that in both cases you will be charged for housekeeping regardless.
We are still looking to form your member committee so that we can work on the improvements you’ve asked for such as the kitchen accessories :)
